The Godavari And Sabari Flood Disaster - August 2006.

August month become a terrible month since so many years for those who are living by the side of the Godavari, Sabari in Andhra Pradesh. This Year because of heavy rain in Maharastra and Orissa both the rivers are swollen like Tsunami. |
Dr. Murali Krishna, Pranth Seva Pramukh and P. Prasad Secretary Sava Bharathi visited flood hit villages in Khammam District. All these victimised villages are belongs to Tribal and Primitive Tribal group. They are the first team from out side and under the guidance of Sri. Kumara Swami, State secretary, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh and Dr.Vevakanada Varma Zilla Sangachalak visited the villages in East Govadavari District.

Especially, Khammam, East and West Godavari Districts are badly affected with unwarned flood. Usually flood comes slowly, but this time with in hours the height of the water level of the Godavari raised to 67.7 ft. Thousands of people ran away from their houses to safety places with out protecting their valuables even they could not save paddy and other food materials. |
In Khammam District, Chintoor, Kunavaram, Vara Ramachandra puram, kukkunuru, velerupadu and Boorugumpadu are badly effected mandals. Chintoor, V.R.Puram and Kunavaram are affected by the aggravated river Sabari. It came like Tsunami and wiped away the villages, crops and Pakka buildings also. You can not imagine that the flood water stayed almost 8 days!!!!! In 60 villages. Because of this, villagers could n’t be able to getin to the village even today. |
In East Godavari district, Mummidivaram, Inavalli and Katrenikona mandals are submerged in Godavari Water for six days... Fourty villagers are totally worst affected and katrenikona mandal still dipped in flood Water. |
Seva Bharathi, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Bharat Vikas Parishat workers and RSS swayamsewaks immediately rushed to the affected villages and distributed 25 quintals of rice, 2 quintal of Dal ,five thousand food, five thousand milk, six thousand bread and ten thousand water packets for three days with the help of boats. In Burgampadu Mandal, RSS and Seva Bharathi organized a relief camp for 2000 victims for eight days. Students of Bharti Bhavan, Hostel for tribals run by Seva Bharati helped a lot to the villagers to shift their belongings to the Bharati Bhavan upto mid night on 4th August, 2006. |
In Khammam Districts, Seva Bharathi is providing medical service in Chintoor and VR Puram Mandals nearly 1600 patients are treated with worth of 50,000/- rupees from 5th of August to till date. From tomorrow onwards three more batches will join to continue the medical service in badly affected unreachable hamlets. |
We are planning to continue the essential needs for some more days by providing rice, dal, utensil, etc.; they are in dire need of cloths and blankets. We would like to provide A kit of Rice,utensils and Kitchen goods, Blankets and clothes, Books, slates and schools material, Thatched House, Veterinary camps for rehabilitation.
